This isnt a conspiracy theory, they admit they read our email in their TOS.

"Use of the Services may require you to connect your email accounts with our Services by providing your email credentials … Due to technical limitations, we store your password in an encrypted form for email providers that do not support OAuth … you grant us a license to make, display, perform, use, reproduce, modify … transmit, create derivatives of, and otherwise act with respect to the contents in such email accounts … and to permit our agents to perform tasks on our behalf."
